CrossPoint 1.5 Firmware Update Brings Dictionary Support to XTEINK X3 and X4

For readers using these compact E Ink devices as dedicated newspaper and long-form readers, the dictionary addition closes a long-standing feature gap, while the rendering changes target the multi-megabyte PDFs and EPUBs common in digital press archives.

Version 1.5.0 — Technical changes

The release touches five measurable areas. StarDict format support enables offline lookups without a network connection; the firmware itself does not include a bundled dictionary file, so installation is entirely user-supplied. Large file loading has been reworked, though no quantitative delta against the 1.2.0 baseline is provided in the public release notes. The text settings menu has been relocated so it is reachable from within an open book in addition to the main settings entry. KOReader synchronization has been improved, and a new end-of-book screen surfaces a recommendation for the next title. CrossPoint 1.5.0 does not apply to the X4 Pro, which remains on a separate beta firmware track.

Dictionary installation — Procedure

Setup is manual and requires an SD card. A folder named dictionaries must be created at the SD card root, and StarDict-format files are placed inside that directory. The firmware does not auto-register any dictionary. After the files are written to the card, the user opens the main settings menu, navigates to the Reader section, and selects the installed dictionary. The Dictionary entry stays hidden in settings until at least one valid file is detected on the card, which doubles as a verification check that the format is recognized. Compatible dictionaries are listed on the CrossPoint setup documentation; StarDict files migrated from other compatible hardware, such as the Boox Note2, have been confirmed to function.

Compatibility and update path

Supported hardware is limited to XTEINK X3 and X4 units running CrossPoint. The X4 Pro variant is excluded pending its own beta cycle. Updates can be applied directly through the CrossPoint project website. No regression data on rendering latency, ghosting behavior, or frontlight uniformity is included in the public release summary, so users with performance-sensitive reading workloads should validate the firmware against their own file corpus before relying on it for archival reading.
